Adult Faith Formation

The Sacred Heart Catholic Church’s Adult Faith Formation Team is committed to nourish and challenge Catholics to a deeper personal understanding of their faith tradition. We will enable you to bring this experience to your families, friends, places of work and ministry. Together, we explore the Catholic tradition from our local context as a diverse Church with members of different cultural backgrounds and with varying ministerial needs in order to focus our experience of faith, Church and ministry to transform our surrounding community into a loving society.

Adult Faith Formation is an essential process inviting Catholic Christians to integrate their own life experiences with knowledge of the faith, love of God, and love of neighbor.  It is a complete initiation into the life of the Church as a way of forming a Christian conscience and a desire to act as Christ’s hands and feet in the world. Adult Faith Formation attends to our heart, our mind, our soul, and our body.  It is an integrated understanding of who we are as beloved children of God, who are continually urged to know, love, and serve God more fully. Adult faith formation must be the central task in the catechetical enterprise, the axis for the catechesis of childhood and adolescence as well as that of old age.

Our Adult Faith Formation program is a continuous and open year-round process for fully initiated Catholics. It is a venue for all Catholics to enahnce their religious education and an opportunity to fuel and reinforce their faith. Many adults are interested in learning more about their faith, studying scriptures, and finding support as they grow in their faith life.  We have a few programs to assist adults in their endeavors. These Programs include:

Small Christian Communities (Bible Study): It is important to know the Bible and its stories better and how that enlivens your Catholic faith. Two daytime groups meet every Tuesday using a guide to discuss the readings for the next Sunday. Other groups meet at private homes in various days and times, sharing the same focus. Parish wide Small Communities opportunities are also offered during lent and/or Advent. Are you interested in hosting a gorup or join one of our existing gorups? Don't hesitate to call today!

Heart to Heart Group: Designed for women of all ages and cultures to learn more about Jesus and to share with each other their life journeys. This group comes together Thursday mornings year round with summer and Christmas breaks. Our mission is to be a support for one another as well as to understand, enrich and deepen our spiritual relationships and knowledge of Jesus’ plan for our lives.

Returning Catholics: Catholic brothers and sisters, come back home! Rediscover your spirituality. If you are lost, have been turned off, or turned away, you have found a home here… Maybe you have been away from the Church for a little while or for quite some time, but now you feel a longing in your heart calling you back to the Catholic Church. Listen to that feeling. It’s our Heavenly Father reaching his arms out to you, the Holy Spirit whispering in your ear, hoping to draw you home. We hope you accept this as your invitation to rediscover the truth, wonder and mystery of the Catholic faith. As your brothers and sisters in our worldwide Catholic family, we want you back. We’ve missed you, and our Church is not the same without you. Regardless of why you left, you are always welcome home and there are ways to return to the practice of the sacraments and the fullness of relationship with Jesus Christ and the Church he founded. We are Catholic. Welcome home!

Formal Faith Studies: These studies are of a set length and are offered throughout the year, are open for all Catholics, and habitually take place  during spring, summer and fall. These are formal courses of study in various subjects. Some examples are bible study and discernment, the Mass, Social Teachings of the Church, or Catholicism in general.
