Baptism

Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to other sacraments.  Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in the mission: “Baptism is the sacrament or regeneration through water and in the word.” Catechism of the Catholic Church

CLASSES

Parents seeking to have their children (age infant to 7 years old) must call and register for the scheduled class by calling the office and providing your name, address, and phone number.  The family should be a registered parishioner of Sacred Heart, and if not a letter from the pastor of the Church where you are registered and attend Church granting permission to have your child baptized at Sacred Heart needs to be provided.  Due to available space registration closes one week prior to the scheduled class.  Parents also need to provide a copy of their child’s birth certificate on the night of the class or before a baptismal certificate can be issued.

Both the parents and the godparents need to attend the class.  If godparents are from another parish they can take the baptism class at their local parish and a letter from their pastor stating they have taken the class and are eligible to be a godparent needs to be provided.  The requirements to be a godparent are:  (1) must be at least 16 years of age; (2) received the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) in the Catholic Church; and (3) be in good standing in the Catholic Church and if married must be married in the Catholic church.   

Baptism Schedule for Classes in Spanish & English:

·        May 7, 2012 @ 7:00PM to 9:00PM in Hallen Hall

 

Baptisms are celebrated at Mass and families are asked to arrive thirty (30) minutes prior to Mass.  The parish provides each child baptized with a baptismal candle.  You may bring your own candle but please take it out of the box and have it ready to give to the Baptism Mass Coordinator when you arrive.  The parents, godparent, and child to be baptized will process in with the priest at the beginning of Mass.

o   No Baptisms in March as it is the Lenten Season

o   April 14, 2012 @ 9:00AM & 5:00PM; April 15, 2012 @ 8:00AM, 10:00AM, 12:00 Noon, and 5:00PM

o   May 19, 2012 @ 9:00AM & 5:00PM; May 20, 2012 @ 8:00AM, 10:00AM, 12:00 Noon, and 5:00PM

o   June 16, 2012 @ 9:00AM & 5:00PM; June 17, 2012 @ 8:00AM, 10:00AM, 12:00 Noon, and 5:00PM

·        Masses in Spanish:

o   No Baptisms in February & March as it is the Lenten Season

o   April 21, 2012 @ 2:00PM

o   May 26, 2012 @ 2:00PM

o   June 23, 2012 @ 2:00PM
