New Mass Setting
In anticipation of the implementation of the New Roman missal on the First Sunday of Advent, the bishops have granted permission for parishes to begin singing the new Mass settings early.
On the first Sunday in September you will find a music sheet in the pews with our new Mass setting – the Mass of Renewal. Rather than try and rehearse before Mass when people are praying, we will simply begin using the new setting. We ask that you join in just as soon as you feel comfortable. For those wishing to learn it more rapidly please come to our normal choir rehearsals on Tuesday evening at 6:30, beginning September 6th or recordings can be found on line at ocp.org. Just click on “Mass of Renewal” by Curtis Stephen under the new Mass settings heading.
Mission Of the Music Ministry
To provide the highest quality of liturgical music to support the Liturgy.
To enable and encourage full and active participation by the assembly.
10 am Choir
This choir rehearses weekly, on Tuesday Night at 6:30., and sing each week at the 10am Mass.
In addition the Choir members sing for all Major Feast days and other special liturgies celebrations throughout the year. The season begins the first Tuesday after Labor Day and is completed after the Feast Day of the Body and Blood of Christ in June. The choir is open to all parishioners.
12 O Clock Choir
This choir rehearses each Sunday before the noon Mass, and then sings at that Mass. Some members attend the Tuesday night rehearsal for additional preparation. On Major Feast Day, if not assigned a specific Mass, members from this choir are urged to combine with the 10 am choir.
Angel Choir
The “Angel Choir” is Sacred Hearts Children’s choir. It is open to all children five years of age and up. The “Angel Choir” rehearses every Wednesday (5:30-6:30) the religious Education classes meet. It is scheduled between the two sessions of Religious Ed. Classes. Our adult volunteers escort the children from class or to class depending on which session they attend. The choir tries to sing at least once a month once classes start, as well as for Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Easter and First Communion. The season usually runs from October through May.
Jr./Senior High Choir
The 5pm Mass Sunday evenings are ministered to by the youth of our parish. Teens seeking to minister in Music are encourage to sing with this choir. Rehearsals are an hour before Mass, each Sunday. In addition to singing at the 5pm Mass, these choirs also sing at a Christmas and Easter Mass.
Song Leaders
At the Masses where we do not have a choir, volunteer song leaders have stepped forward to lead the assembly. These folks would welcome any additional help. Rehearsals for these Masses, the 5pm Vigil Mass, and the 8am Sunday Mass, are held before the Mass. The Saturday night people come in at 4pm and the 8am people come at 7:30pm.
Cantors
Cantors here at Sacred Heart are usually members of the choir that serves at any given liturgy. Their ministry requires a greater commitment of talent and effort. Their primary role is to proclaim the Psalm at the Sunday Mass, and to function as song leader.
Instrumentalist
Those who have a talent playing a musical instrument are urged to get involved in our Music Ministry. Musicians should attend the rehearsal specific to the Mass they wish to get involved with. Ability to read music is a must as is at least a basic proficiency on their instrument.
